The Simpsons: 10 Funniest Episodes Ever Made

4. The City Of New York Vs. Homer Simpson (Episode 1, Season Nine)

Even the fact that this episode has a comedy sequence featuring the Twin Towers isn't enough to spoil the fun: The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson is about a dense a Simpsons episode as one could ever hope for, packed with memorable gags (the Broadway show "Kickin' It"), surreal gags (who can forget Homer drinking all the crab juice?) and everything in-between ("How come we had to transfer in Atlanta twice?")

As with a lot of the episodes on this list, the plot here is inconsequential: the Simpsons travel to New York City so that Homer can find his car, but the narrative's real purpose is as a hanger for a slew of random jokes - most of which take aim at the Big Apple.

Given that the comic hilarity is so on point here, The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson is one of those episodes that never seems to get boring no matter how many times you see it. "New York is a hellhole," says Homer. "And you know how I feel about hellholes." He might end up going through a major ordeal, but for us, the audience, it's a joy to behold.
