The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Rock Star Moments

7. REM (S13 E03 “Homer The Moe”)

After Moe tries to rebrand his dive bar by embracing a trendy, post-modern atmosphere, Homer and his friends suddenly feel unwelcome and out of place, forcing them to look for a new watering hole. A vengeful Homer sets up a makeshift bar in his own garage, and convinces R.E.M. to perform by telling them it's part of a benefit concert to save the rainforest.

Having played "It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)", to which Homer adlibs some interesting lyrics, R.E.M. find out the bar is actually registered as a hunting club, much to their dismay. An angry Michael Stipe threatens Homer with a broken beer bottle, before the other band members intervene, telling him that violence is "not the R.E.M. way".

To prove he's running a legitimate hunting club, Homer attempts to shoot a turkey, but accidentally shoots Moe instead.

In the final scene, Homer resolves his issues with Moe and R.E.M., before the rest of the Simpson family join them in Moe's refurbished, "classic look" tavern for a vegetarian Thanksgiving meal provided by the band, complete with tofu turkey and curds. Nothing says rock n' roll like making a social statement.
