The Simpsons: 10 Greatest Rock Star Moments

8.  Red Hot Chili Peppers (S4 E22 “Krusty Gets Kancelled”)

In the final episode of season four, Krusty the Clown faces a major dilemma when his TV show is cancelled after a new show, featuring a charismatic ventriloquist’s dummy named Gabbo, competes for viewers at the same time slot.

After a local newspaper declares "Gabbo Fabbo, Krusty Rusty", Bart and Lisa come to Krusty's rescue, helping to produce a comeback special, featuring top celebrity guests like Bette Midler, Hugh Hefner, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

In a segment which parodies an incident involving The Doors on The Ed Sullivan Show, Krusty tries to convince the Chili Peppers to change their lyrics before going onstage in order to appease the television network.

The band refuse, with drummer Chad Smith proclaiming, "our lyrics are like our children, man", and they perform an unaltered "Give It Away" dressed only in their tightest, whitest underwear. During an after-party at Moe's, it's clear the Chili Peppers not only helped secure Krusty's triumphant return, but also inadvertently started a fashion trend amongst the men of the town, who are also clad only in their undies.
