The Simpsons: 10 Major Plot-Holes Everyone Ignores
5. The Simpson Gene Doesn't Cause Stupidity
Homer Simpson is a very stupid man. Bart doesn’t seem the brightest pencil in the toolbox either. When Lisa starts to question her own intelligence, it turns out that Homer & Bart’s stupidity is hereditary, but Lisa, as a girl, will not get the Simpson curse.
The stupidity certainly tracks with Bart & Homer, and it seems to follow with Abe too. All of the other Simpson men there present certainly aid that argument too. Ultimately though, it just doesn’t hold water.
Unky Herb should have the Simpson gene, yet he’s a genius, both financially and in that he’s able to engineer successful cars and (much more impressively) a baby translator. Minor plot hole; why isn’t the baby translator absolutely everywhere in the world of The Simpsons now?
Then there’s Homer himself. He’s actually an incredibly smart man, he just has a crayon lodged up his nose. So the Simpson gene doesn’t really seem to have been all that effective then, despite being a crucial part of Lisa’s storyline. Chalk it up to The Simpsons writers having the Simpson gene... except then they’d be smart, right? D’oh!
