The Simpsons: 10 Most Hated Characters
8. Rod & Todd Flanders
There could almost be an argument made for just about any Flanders to have made this list. Maude was something of a boring character, who didn’t bring a great amount to the show, while Ned would have sat at the very top had Homer had anything to say about it. However, it is the Flanders children that are more hated than their parents.
Out of context, and even in context, that sentence doesn’t sound great, but there’s no denying that Rod and Todd Flanders are just irritating. The voices, the whining, the lack of ever actually doing anything fun, there’s just nothing to like about them.
There was potential for Todd towards the start of the series. In 'Dead Putting Society', the younger Flanders sibling (though the flashbacks in 'Lisa's First Word' would confuse that issue further) engaged in something of a rivalry with Bart, something that didn’t last any longer than 22 minutes.
The only thing that could have made either child the slightest bit interesting and it was abandoned in favour of making them devoid of any real personality aside from their religious devotion. They are rarely ever even shown in school interacting with the likes of Nelson and Milhouse, another omitted dimension and layer that could have potentially made them more compelling.
