The Simpsons: 10 One-Off Characters Voiced By Hank Azaria
9. The Leader
Appearance: "The Joy of Sect," Season 9. The self-appointed leader of a short-lived Springfield cult called Movementarism, The Leader only appears briefly in this episode. Once, he is shown waving his white-gloved hand out of the window of a Rolls Royce (based on a real-life Oregon cult-leader nicknamed Osho, who drove a different Rolls Royce every day of the year as a gift from his followers.) Later, when Homer attempted to reveal the fraud, The Leader flew away in a UFO- which fell apart, revealing a poorly-constructed cardboard UFO with a bicycle-powered helicopter underneath; the humming sound made by the Leader himself, using a comb and wax paper- only to crash on Cletus the Slack-Jawed Yokel's shack. Funniest Moment: Not a moment that The Leader was a part of directly, but Homer- brainwashed to the highest degree- began noticing something special about the lima beans all of the followers were made to eat. Homer: "Oh! A lima bean that looks just like the Leader! I'll put it with the others." Marge: "Homer, you know I always try to put the best face on everything, but there's no face on that damn bean!"
