The Simpsons: 10 One-Off Characters Voiced By Hank Azaria
8. Roy
Appearance: "The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show," Season 8. When the local newspaper announced that a new character- Poochie the Dog- would be added to the popular duo of Itchy & Scratchy, Lisa retorted, "Adding a new character is often a desperate attempt to boost low ratings." On cue entered Roy, a cool-looking teenager who bared a striking resemblance to both Poochie the Dog and Happy Days heartthrob Fonzie. In reality, both Poochie and Roy were the writers' attempt to silence the FOX Network executives who were insisting a new character would help The Simpsons' ratings and popularity. Roy's status as temporary roommate of the Simpsons family lasted just this episode, as he left right as Poochie the Dog was killed on the way back to his home planet. Funniest Moment: Taking on another sitcom trope, Roy left his temporary docile to lead the life of Jack from Three's Company. Roy: "Good news, everybody. I'm moving into my own apartment with two sexy ladies." Marge: "Oh, then I guess this is good-bye, Roy. Maybe we'll see you in a few years."
