The Simpsons: 10 Potential Ways It Could End
8. A Completely Normal Final Episode
The Ending:
The show pulls a Gilligan's Island and ends without fanfare, keeping the wheels spinning with an utterly ordinary episode which does nothing to change the scenario or signal any sort of an ending whatsoever.
Why They Could Use It:
Because an ending to a show as iconic as The Simpsons will almost certainly never live up to expectations, and so it might make sense to simply admit this by giving the show a quiet bow out, where everything is as it has always been, signalling that things will stay the same as much as they have changed over the years.
Why They Might Not:
As admirable as it would be for the writers to admit that they could never live up to fans' expectations of a finale, a final episode which doesn't at least hint at the show's end would be criticised for its laziness, and of course, if a big deal is made out of the finale, it'll pull in a ton more viewers.
