The Simpsons: 10 Potential Ways It Could End
7. In The Final Season, Each Episode Covers 1 Year Of Time
The Ending:
If Disney know ahead of time that the next season will be their last, then the show should abandon the traditional format, with each of the 22-25 episodes depicting a year in the life of The Simpsons and Springfield as a whole.
Why They Could Use It:
Because for all of the fantasy episodes and glimpses at the Simpsons' future, it'd be great to see an unambiguous look at how each of them gets on. Fans would get to see Bart and Lisa aging into their 30s, while Maggie reaches her early 20s, and Homer and Marge settle gracefully into middle-age. If it's done right, it could be the show's best season in years, especially if the writers throw in tons of gags about the supporting characters: after all, who could resist seeing Milhouse looking just like his dad?
Why They Might Not:
It's an incredibly ambitious idea which simply might be too much for the writers and animators. It would require all hands on creative deck, but given how much the show means to people, it surely seems worth it.
