The Simpsons: 10 Springfield Characters You Totally Forgot Existed

The Simpsons characters everyone forgets about! Roy, Frank Grimes Jr. & more!

Ever since 1987, when a typical, unassuming family of five made their first appearance on the Tracey Ullman Show, The Simpsons has grown like no other TV show in history. Over 30 years and a ridiculous 700 episodes later, that same family are still going strong. The quality may have dipped, but the show doesn't show any signs of stopping.

While Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are still the main characters in Springfield, the supporting cast around them has grown to the point that there is genuinely a small town's worth of people ready to appear in every single episode.

From the titular main characters, past the secondary characters like Flanders and Mr. Burns, the tertiary characters like Lenny and Carl, all the way to the novelty characters like Squeaky Voiced Teen and Sideshow Mel, there are literally dozens of personalities populating Springfield. So much so that there have been many residents throughout the years that have completely fallen from memory.

Whether they had only a small role, or simply haven't appeared in the show for a very long time, friends, neighbours, and even relatives of the Simpsons have fallen through the cracks, with the most loyal of fans often forgetting that they ever existed.

10. Handsome Pete

There have been some very strange characters in Springfield over the years, from grown men never out of character like Bumblebee Man and Duff Man, to inbred hillbillies, and even a talking monkey. One of the down right weirdest however, is Handsome Pete.

The character first appeared in 'Bart the Fink'. When Krusty faked his own death, Bart kept seeing him all over town, with his investigation leading him to the Springfield Harbour, and more specifically, The Sea Cap'n's Bait n' Barg'n B'n.

Bart blew up a Krusty balloon, but didn't inflate it all the way, leading Captain McAllister to believe he was asking about Handsome Pete. The small character then came out to play the concertina for nickels, with no explanation of who he was, or why he looked the way he did.

This wasn't even the only appearance of Pete in the show. When Homer ran away from donating a kidney to his dad, the character was seen outside Davey Jones' Hamper, and was also there in the movie when Russ Cargill dropped the dome on top of the entire town.
