The Simpsons: 10 Springfield Characters You Totally Forgot Existed

Abe Simpson never had the greatest relationship with Homer's mother, Mona, and after he begged her to have sex with him when she returned from 'beyond the grave', it's easy to forget that he actually had a very meaningful relationship with another woman in season 2.

Grandpa was feeling lonelier than ever when he and Bea immediately connected over the retirement home swapping their pills around. They fell in love, and when Bea soon passed away, he was simply heartbroken. He wasn't there thanks to Homer, and with Abe believing she died of a broken heart, he almost cut his son out of his life completely.

In her will, Bea left Abe $106,000 to enjoy as he saw fit, and after interviewing almost the entire town to see what he should do, he decided to treat all of his friends in the retirement castle. It's a genuinely touching moment, and wouldn't have been possible without his girlfriend.

Bea is one of the few characters The Simpsons has killed off for good, as eagle-eyed viewers can be painfully reminded of by her tombstone in the background of Maude Flanders' funeral in 'Alone Again, Natura-Diddily'.
