The Simpsons: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Season 2

9. I Left My Heart In Capital City

The Simpsons has come to be defined by its celebrity guest appearances.

The famous faces who have appeared in Springfield are far too many mention, but the very first may seem like a bit of an odd choice to the uneducated mind.

In Season 2's "Dancin' Homer", The Simpson family move to Capital City after Homer lands a gig as their baseball team's mascot.

The soundtrack to their move is a track simply titled "Capital City" performed by the one and only Tony Bennett.

Bennett's heyday came in 1950s and 60s, recording jazz and swing standards like "I Left My Heart In San Francisco" and "Because of You". As well as laying down these legendary songs, Bennett become the first celebrity in the history of The Simpsons to appear as themselves.

An old jazz singer might not seem like the smartest choice for a guest spot in a 90s sitcom, but Tony Bennett was actually going through somewhat of a resurgence at the time.

He was getting regular spots on MTV and late night talk shows and his album, MTV Unplugged: Tony Bennett, won the Grammy for Album of the Year four years after his stint on The Simpsons.

I'm not saying those two things are linked, but...
