The Simpsons: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Season 2

8. The Won-D'Oh! Years

If there's one thing that the The Simpsons loves more than celebrity guests, it's parodies.

The show loves to honour classic films and TV and the episode "Three Men and a Comic Book" is no different.

When Bart ponders getting a job to buy the first edition of Radioactive Man, he enters an internal monologue to the soundtrack of "Turn! Turn! Turn!" by The Byrds.

If this looks familiar, then you're probably a fan of The Wonder Years.

The Wonder Years chronicled the life of Kevin Arnold from age 12-17. It was very popular and critically-acclaimed, scooping a Peabody Award alongside four Emmys over its six seasons.

One of the show's defining traits was its narration, provided by an adult version of Kevin. This voice was provided by Daniel Stern and it is he who links The Wonder Years to this episode of The Simpsons, as he is also the voice of Bart's inner monologue.

Daniel Stern's brother, David, was one of The Simpsons' writers at the time. Having also served as a writer for The Wonder Years, David was the perfect man to nail this parody.

It's a small detail, but one that would have delighted TV fans at the time and it serves as a great nod to one of the most influential shows of the 1980s.
