The Simpsons: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Season 2

7. Let's Get Weird

Owing the scene where Homer jumps Springfield Gorge on a skateboard (or tries to, anyhow), "Bart The Daredevil" is possibly the most memorable episode of Season 2.

However, had certain plans gone ahead, the episode would have also been memorable for a very different reason.

The episode originally ran too short, so an idea to create a filler piece after the main story was floated around. Al Jean and Mike Reiss took up the challenge and what they came up with was truly bizarre.

As you can see in the video above, they devised a Second World War-inspired skit in which Homer accidentally gives away secrets of the D-Day landings to the Nazis.

Bart eventually puts a stop to Hitler's evil plans and then Homer beats up Josef Stalin for good measure.

"Nazis On Tap" never saw the light of day after Matt Groening called it "too weird" for broadcast.

In 2006, Simpsons storyboard artist, John Mathot, released the audio of the short online. The fact that the audio exists proves just how close this segment came to making the show.

However, the only visual content that exists of "Nazis On Tap" is a comic strip devised by character designer, Phil Ortiz.
