5. The Blinky Protest

The episode we're going to talk about has a really long name so, to save your eyes (and my wrists), just look it up for yourself if you're that desperate to know what it's called.

The focal point of the episode in question is Blinky; a three-eyed fish mutated by Mr. Burns' power plant.

Blinky has since gone on to become somewhat of a cult figure, amassing popularity with hardcore and casual Simpsons fans alike.

One group of fans took their Blinky-love to the next level, when they incorporated him into their very own environmental protest.

In February 1991, just over four months after this episode first aired, the Citizens Against Radioactive Dumping protested against the government's plan to build a nuclear waste dump in Albany, New York.

As part of the protest, four children dressed up as the Simpson family (no love for Maggie, clearly) and presented the local nuclear commission with a fabric version of Blinky the fish.

They then went onto perform a "rap song" which retold the plot of this episode.

A Simpsons reference and a environmental rap song. Could this entry be any more 90s?
