The Simpsons: 10 Things You Didn't Know About Season 2

4. Starr-struck

The Simpsons can boast the mightily-impressive stat of having three of the four Beatles guest star in the show.

The only reason they didn't get the fourth was because he had died nearly a decade before the show hit the air.

The first of the Fab Four to get the yellow treatment was Richard Starkey - known to you and me as Ringo Starr.

Starr appears in Season 2's "Brush With Greatness" as the object of a young Marge's affections. As it turns out, Marge wasn't the only one who had a bit of a thing for Ringo.

Brian K. Roberts, who wrote this episode, had always wanted to meet a Beatle. When the idea of Marge's childhood crush on Ringo came about, Roberts decided to take this opportunity to fulfil a dream by writing Starr into the script.

Thankfully, Ringo accepted his guest role with little persuasion and his part was expanded to the masterpiece that we know and love.

It's not every day that you get the chance to meet one of your idols, so who can really blame Roberts for grabbing this chance with both hands.

What you can blame him for is asking Ringo to sign a poster for him, despite a memo being passed around specifically asking people not to approach him in the studio.

Oops.
