The Simpsons: 14 Most Controversial Episodes Of All Time

9. Bart Vs. Australia

A collect call trying to establish which way water drains Down Under lands Bart in big trouble in Bart vs. Australia. Indicted for fraud by the Australian government, The Simpsons head for the Antipodes to clear Bart€™s name, and in their short stay there managed to mock local culture so much that show staff reportedly received over 100 letters from angry Australians protesting the episode. Not only did viewers Down Under feel that the accents in the episode were more South African than Australian, references like invasive amphibians and baby eating dingoes were probably a sore point for many. Simpsons writer Mike Reiss later joked: "We were condemned in the Australian parliament after the episode."
