Much like in Bart Simpson's Dracula, we get to see a character in a completely new way here, only this time it is the polar opposite of how they have been portrayed in the past. Ned Flanders is The Devil.

The jokes for this segment almost write themselves based on this, and seeing Homer nearly outsmart Ned only to be confined to hell for a day anyway make for great entertainment.

Though this is a hilarious segment (Lionel Hutz makes any episode funnier), The Simpsons manage to take a story about The Devil and turn it into a genuinely touching moment between Homer and Marge, that really does represent the love that the two have for each other.
