Long before Nelson fell in love with Lisa, Bart was forced to defend her honour to the school bully, and ended up getting beaten up repeatedly for his efforts.

Another typically morally-centrd episode, Bart The General took an enduring message - of fighting back - and played it out in relatable and most importantly entertaining terms, and showed some sign that Bart wasn't just a nasty older brother.

The episode also introduced Herman the one-armed psychopath who probably shouldn't have been anywhere near guns, as Bart's unlikely military advisor - a character who could quite easily have lived in a Tarantino flick.
