The Simpsons: 20 Best Movie Parodies

In an episode which sees Homer go into space, much fun is had in parodying Stanley Kubrick's seminal sci-fi film 2001: A Space Odyssey. 

At one point, Bart throws a marker pen into the air which then morphs into a satellite in space. This, of course, references the classic transition from the 'Dawn of Man' sequence to the film's future setting.

But the best 2001 parody of the episode has got to be the famous 'Homer eats potato chips' skit which pokes fun at the docking scene of that film - complete with The Blue Danube being used in the soundtrack. Funny in its own right apart from the reference, it's an instance of The Simpsons finding inspiration in a film to create an iconic moment of its own.
