14. South Park, We'd Stand Beside You If We Weren't So Scared (Season 21, Episode 19 - The Squirt And The Whale)
One of the most critically acclaimed chalkboard gags in the show's history is also one of its most important, a reference to the very real death threats South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker had received two weeks prior for their airing of two episodes which satirised the various controversies about depictions of the Muslim prophet Muhammad in the media. It's the equivalent of saying, "Fox will never let us air an episode as daring as your two-parter, but we support you anyway". They didn't have to do it, but it's ballsy enough that they did, and earned them considerable brownie points with the mass media.
