4. His Use of the Term BBQ

Above is exhibit A. For my whole life as an avid viewer of all things American that we got on either VHS or Beta, I came to learn that our definition of the term "bbq" or barbecue differed from our Northern Pacific neighbours. Generally the main one was where as in Australia we term the actual event as a bbq, over yonder the "Yanks" (my apologies to Southerners, but that's how we described all who resided within the United States) called their party a "cook-out" and bbq represents the style in which the food is cooked. Other than that, the difference according to my childhood reflections and to what Eddie Murphy describes above are strikingly similar in both cultures. Now granted Homer does sometimes refer to food as bbq but that can explained through his integration within American society. But the fact that as far back as the early classic episodes this is the first time in television cultural history (to my knowledge) that the term cook-out was NOT used to describe any event of this kind. Even Flanders gets in on the action when he hosts his family reunion.
