The Simpsons: 5 Reasons Why Homer Simpson Is Secretly Australian

3. Work And Recreational Habits

The Simpsons Moe Now although the last two kind of fall under this category I felt they needed further analysis of what could be fitted on one page. However, here we will be looking at the every day life of Homer Simpson as a regular Joe (or Norm?). Let's look at what makes Homer Simpsons day a happy one. Likes to sleep in a little, wakes up to a hearty breakfast, usually consisting of the Australian all natural diet when it comes to the morning, bacon, eggs and sausages. He works a 9 to 5 job which although he is not fond of, knows that it is what needs to be done to provide for his family. When he clocks out he likes nothing more then to drop into Moe's Tavern for an hour or 2, have a quiet drink and discuss random elements of everyday life which occur that seemingly are important to discuss at that time with co-workers and friends. Goes home for the evening to a loving wife who has cooked him another essential Aussie diet staple known as meat and 3 veg, spends quality time with his kids before tucking them into bed and either retiring to the bedroom to show the missus some gratitude for being such a great lady, or falling asleep in front of the television. Let's add to that Homer Simpsons love for sports, the fact that every holiday he takes the family on requires that the destination is a beach location (the only American style RV trip he goes on ends in disaster) and his weekends usually consist of him either drinking, sleeping or having the aforementioned bbq and right there you have the definitive recipe for the Australian lifestyle in its entirety. And after initial experimentation, he does not own a gun and is quite happy to try out his hunting skills using various self made tools or traps he had learnt as a child. Which is even showcased as far back as the first season in "The Call of the Simpsons". Now as both a country boy and a city slicker I can assure you that I cannot define the Australian way of life more accurately or more profoundly than what Homer has portrayed just by being himself to the rest of the world. Everything that he has ever done convinces me that he is nothing more than an Australian who took advantage of the Crocodile Dundee lovefest that happened circa 1986-87 and never came back. Which leads me to a more sinister side to my revelations....

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
