Homer fighting with former president George H. W. Bush may still be controversial, but it's also one of the funniest moments on the show. Season 7 revels in its daring and twists, from the epic premiere episode revealing Maggie shot Mr. Burns to Bart, Lisa and Maggie being put in the care of Ned Flanders.
The Simpsons has always been controversial, and though shows like South Park and Family Guy have always surpassed it in terms of shock value, season 7 does an incredible job of taking big topics such as politics and Lisa's vegetarianism, and making them fun for the whole family.
This season also comes with the first appearance of Homer's mother, and even though this episode sets the bar pretty high, the rest of the season has no issue meeting its standard.
