The Simpsons: Every Season Ranked Worst To Best
3. Season 5
In season 5, The Simpsons' writers really started to play around with their characters. In "Homer's Barbershop Quartet," a flashback reveals Homer's stint as a Grammy Award-winning singer, and in "Rosebud", we finally get some deep insight into the past of the ruthless Mr Burns.
The best episodes of the season, though, surely stand as two of the best in the show's history. "Deep Space Homer" has Homer become an astronaut, showing him hilariously feasting on chips in zero gravity, and "Cape Feare" has Sideshow Bob return for one last attempt on Bart's life.
The latter is a revelation, and acts as a showcase of just how intelligent and even dark the show can be. Add to these classics the episode where Bart becomes the "I didn't do it" kid and the moment where Apu loses the Kwit-E-Mart, and what you have is a perfect season of TV.
