The Simpsons: Every Treehouse Of Horror Ranked Worst To Best

9. II. The Monkey's Paw; The Bart Zone; If I Only Had A Brain

The Simpsons The Shinning

What sort of horror sub-genre would this be without a good old fashioned cursed MacGuffin episode?

Way back in the second in the Treehouse series, Homer got his hands on a cursed Monkey's Paw that would grant him terrible wishes (is there any other type really?). This came even before the segments had their own names for some reason, with each following the convention of being named after the dreamer.

It's a simple but effective segment, and very much feels like an old favourite now. It's also peak Homer.

Second comes Bart's Nightmare, based heavily on the Twilight Zone and featuring an empowered Bart who all of Springfield must cater to. It's a nice little comment on the enduring power of Bart, following a surprisingly on-point message about the price of fame in the first segment.

And finally, the weakest segment of the episode sees Mr Burns in full evil flow (before the kinks in the character were worked out), which is mostly just memorable for the final shot of Mr Burns' head grafted onto Homer's body. That that's all most remember is no bad thing.
