The Sopranos: 10 Best Minor Characters

5. Kevin Finnerty

The Sopranos Tony Blundetto
HBO

This could be a bit of a cheat considering that Kevin Finnerty was played by James Gandolfini during Tony's coma, however, he was as fascinating a character that has appeared on the show in a minor role.

When Tony is shot by Junior, he ends up in a coma that ends up being a metaphor for Tony's life and current situation. Kevin Finnerty is a salesman who travels from place to place and is currently attending a convention. As his coma gets worse Tony is attracted by the flashing light in the distance and goes there to see what is going on. He finds a party that he is expected at with somebody looking a lot like Tony Blundetto asking him to give up his briefcase and come inside.

The whole coma experience was a phenomenal part of the show, as it showed us a part of Tony that we never got to see otherwise. His metaphoric dream told us a lot about what Tony is frightened of and the fact that he actually loves his life with his wife and children.

Whilst Kevin Finnerty might just be a subconscious part of Tony Soprano, he was somebody who made a major impact on how we see its main character.
