The Sopranos: 10 Funniest Paulie Moments

1. A Visit To Italy (Commendatori. Season 2, Episode 4)

Paulie visiting the old country was a storyline that had jokes written all over it! The episode marked the first time that the series had left the New York metropolitan area, with Tony's crew heading to Italy to speak with the head of the Naples mob family. A visit to the homeland is big occasion for any Italian-American mobster and as you would expect, Paulie as high expectations.

But as is the case with high expectations, the risk of being disappointed is always a threat and inevitably this was the case for Paulie. First it was the food, then it was the toilets; Paulie struggles to adapt to the cultural differences and standards of Italy. His struggles to adapt to Italian living are exemplified by his attempt to interact with some of the locals, only to be given the cold shoulder.

Paulie: Commendatori, buongiorno! Italian locals: *Dead Silence*Paulie: C***suckers.

Upon arriving back in Newark, Paulie exaggerates his enjoyment of the trip, bragging about the experience in the process. On the journey home, Paulie's real thoughts on Italy are revealed. As the rest of the crew stare dimly across the industrial pastures that shape their New Jersey land, Paulie is smiling, seemingly relieved to be home in America.

Paulie was an outsider in Italy, an association by heritage but his heart always belonged in New Jersey. Not many people would pick New Jersey over Naples. But then again, we aren't all Paulie "Walnuts"!
