The Sopranos: 10 Funniest Paulie Moments

9. A Mobster Intervention (The Strong, Silent Type. Season 4, Episode 10)

By the end of season four, Chris' drug problem was spiralling out of control. In this episode alone, Chris had already killed Adriana's dog Cozette after accidentally sitting on the helpless animal and had been mugged by drug dealers.

Later on in the episode, Chris even hits Adriana after she suggests that he goes to rehab, leaving her with bad bruises. All of this leads to one of most important moments of Chris' character arc, as his close friends and family sit down with him for an intervention. With such a serious topic being addressed, audiences could be forgiven for believing that such a scene would be more uncomfortable than funny.

However, whether or not it was intentional, the intervention scene is one of the funniest moments of season four and of course, Paulie plays a fundamental role in things getting out of control.

Despite the mediator's best efforts to keep feedback 'non-judgemental', Paulie is not one to mince words and does not seem to care for the mediator's approach. Chris defends himself by calling out the the frailties of his fellow mobsters and tensions quickly boil over.

When Chris proceeds to criticise the boss and then call his own mother an appalling expletive, Paulie snaps and a brawl breaks out. We really shouldn't laugh, but it is difficult not to!
