Before The Dark Dimension was abandoned, Virgin Publishing was interested in publishing a novelisation. When Greenwood finally pulled the plug on the special, the publishers decided there was no point in publishing it. After all, they had a robust range of new novels featuring the 7th Doctor and had begun publishing new stories featuring the previous six incarnations.
Undeterred, Rigelsford continued to seek a publishing deal for his unmade Doctor Who story. He discussed a potential script book with Titan Books, but the BBC clamped down on the script being made public. This clampdown by the BBC likely ensured that the unofficial "Making Of" book failed to surface on any of the three proposed publishing dates between 1994 and '95, despite a dust-jacket featuring the new-style Cyberman being designed.
