The Umbrella Academy: 10 Questions Season 3 MUST Answer
2. Why Did Reginald Recruit A Different Team Of Heroes?
The show's time travel logic did make some of the developments a little tricky to understand. But it would seem that, instead of forming the Umbrella Academy with Klaus, Luther, Vanya, Five, Diego and Allison, Sir Reginald Hargreeves created a completely different group of heroes. Enter the Sparrow Academy.
Now, while this could just be one of the many alterations that the gang ended up making to the timeline, remember that they actually interacted with their father in the '60s.
He didn't seem too fond of his future children - with the exception of Five, with whom he had a mature conversation with over a drink - so there's a strong chance that he intentionally changed history by recruiting different children for his band of heroes instead.
Another thing that supports this theory is the fact that Ben is alive and well and also a member of the Sparrow Academy. As Reginald never met him in the '60s (since he was dead in the original timeline), he could have recruited him without knowing that he was part of the original team.
So the question is: why did Reggie remake and rename the Umbrella Academy when he had enough knowledge to ensure that most things about his team remained the same?
