Season 3 saw Jim ply his trade at Dunder Mifflin Stamford instead of Scranton, which, while it introduced some interesting characters in Karen and Andy, slowed most of the momentum created in Season 2. The show initially struggled to balance the screen-time between the two offices and the it suffered as a result. However, this episode marks the first time where the show managed to nail that balance and provide meaningful and funny storylines at both offices.

Jim and Karen are growing closer in Stamford until a chance phone call between Jim and Pam reveals the lingering chemistry between the two following their kiss at the end of season 2. In Scranton, Dwight attempts to take Ryan under his wing as a new salesman via an arduous and metaphor-laden detour before the latter’s first sales pitch. The annual Pretzel Day is also taking place at the Scranton office, which means everyone abandons their work station to queue in line for a sweet pretzel, including Michael and Stanley who share a brief moment of cooperation in ensuring the orderliness of the queue.

The episode is great at pushing forward storylines and developing the characters further while also providing the bizarre laughs that the show had become known for.
