From the moment Dave and Tony walked into the bar where Rick and Glenn had found Hershel drowning his sorrows, viewers knew they were trouble. As the two groups moved past introductions and into territory concerning the farm, tensions quickly mounted, culminating in Rick shooting the duo in self-defence and ensuring they'd never see the farm (or even Nebraska, for that matter). Shortly after, several more men arrived looking for them, leading to a conflict that left their group fleeing, walkers alerted and the abandoned - and injured - Randall in the care of Rick, Glenn and Hershel. Randall's prisoner status at the farm would go on to cause conflict among the group that would pave the way for the rest of the season, with the moral debate over what to do with him ultimately sending Dale on his fateful final walk in the fields and bringing the long-brewing conflict between Rick and Shane to a head. Through Randall, viewers got the chance to hear and see what other survivors in the world outside of the farm were increasingly capable of, with the story of his group's rape of innocent girls being a sickening wake-up call that the farm wouldn't be a safe haven from others forever.
