The Walking Dead: 10 Best Antagonists So Far

8. Inmates

Shortly after their arrival at the prison at the start of season 3, Hershel was bitten in the leg, leading Rick to perform an impromptu amputation of the limb in the prison's cafeteria. During this event, the survivors encountered five prisoners who had been locked inside the cafeteria since the outbreak had begun. Two of these survivors, Axel and Oscar, would later turn out to be decent guys, becoming a part of the group. Unfortunately for them, their de facto leader, Tomas, did a lot in a short amount of time to ensure that Rick had no reason to trust them, brutally murdering his own "friend" Big Tiny and blatantly attempting to kill Rick. Ultimately, Tomas would fall victim to a post-Shane, no-nonsense Rick, who buried his machete in the inmate's head. The fifth inmate, Andrew, took off running in response, escaping outside and directly into a group of walkers before being locked out and left to die by Rick. Unbeknownst to Rick, Andrew survived, luring walkers into the prison and causing chaos that would lead to the deaths of T-Dog and Lori before Oscar put a bullet in him. Despite finally having a new safe haven around them, the survivors had their worlds turned upside down, with Andrew's actions causing Rick to spiral out of control, casting a shadow over both the narrative drive of the season and the series as a whole.
