The Walking Dead: 10 Best Antagonists

7. The Wolves

Negan The Walking Dead
AMC

The mysterious Wolves had been teased throughout the back half of the fifth season to solid effect, a seemingly numberless group with no clear motives and a penchant for branding walkers when they weren't busy cleverly using them to create elaborate traps.

When Morgan encountered their leader, Owen, in the season finale, their goal became pretty clear: They want what you have. And to that end, in all their simplicity, they became scary, as no amount of reason or logic could sway them from destroying communities and lives, and when they turned up out of the blue to attack Alexandria, it was efficiently shocking and scary.

Though the group as a whole - no more than a vicious force of nature - was quickly defeated, Owen remained imprisoned in Alexandria, creating the conflict between Carol and Morgan about whether or not he can change. And though Carol attempted to end the debate by killing him, his last act to save Denise proved Morgan may have been right, fittingly robbing the series of a wonderfully creepy character who may have had so much to offer given the chance to bounce back.
