The Walking Dead: 10 Big Differences Between The Comics & TV Show

7. Shane Originally Died Way Earlier

The ongoing antagonism between Rick and his former fellow cop Shane provided a lot of the drama in the first two seasons. Shane and Lori Grimes had a one-night stand, finding comfort in each other's arms during the early days of the zombie apocalypse, whilst Rick was in the hospital and presumed dead. That one night is the catalyst for a whole lot of upset. It spirals into Shane almost assaulting Lori, frustrated that his feelings for her are not mutual and are spurned when Rick shows up alive. In the second season Shane goes properly insane €“ which is pretty entertaining €“ before finally confronting Rick with what happened, threatening to kill him, and getting a bullet in the head. That's a lot more prolonged and drawn-out than it was in the comics. Where the secrets and resentment between Rick, Lori and Shane provides a rich vein of drama on screen, in the source material it provides a powerful climax to the first story arc. Yes, the group have barely moved on from their camp ground outside Atlanta before Shane gets murderous...and there, it was Carl who shot him.
