We know, we know, actor Norman Reedus has repeatedly threatened to riot alongside legions of fans if his character, firm fan favourite Daryl, is ever sacrificed to the god of ratings. But consider this—the showrunners have long since made it clear, somewhere between the shattered remnants of Glenn and Abraham, that they love nothing more than killing off characters who fans love and just want to see happy.

Maybe we’re being too cynical here, but thinking back to Rick’s dream of a peaceful life for Glenn after Negan bashed his brain in back in cold hard reality, it seems more then possible that a character as beloved by the fanbase as Daryl is, if anything, more at risk than most of the survivors. Doubly so since he took on Alpha and Beta before their defeat as well as romancing the now-missing Connie, given that’s exactly the sort of false comfort this show loves setting up just to knock it down.
