The Walking Dead: 10 Characters Who Utterly Underwhelmed

1. The Governor

Guv Another victim of the transition to television, the anticipation that the TV Governor would be as ruthless as he is the comic was an eventual let down. They couldn't go as far as they did with the Governor as they did in the comics (repeatedly raping Michonne would have been hard to film without it looking excessive) but where the comic had the benefit of taking the reader on a journey because they had no clue about the Governor€™s true intentions; by the time he appeared on TV, everyone knew he was a villain. That meant that all his phoney-baloney pretending to be a nice guy started to drag. You wanted him to get out of second gear and become a villain but when it eventually happened, it wasn't satisfying. The random shooting of the soldiers juxtaposed with the nice guy act didn't work very well because the balance was wrong. By the time everyone knew his true colours, the transition to psycho bad guy was unbelievable and unrealistic, due to the fact he didn't progress as a character for so many episodes. If anything, Merle made a better antagonist, there was a real reason to hate him and his story arc was something you could follow and believe. The TV Governor was a strange mish-mash of the comic book version and another character altogether. They tried too hard to humanize him and it didn't work. He just ended up looking like a loser.
