8. Otis

Otis' death proved to be the catalyst for Shane's fall. He's one of the most obscure characters on the list, yet his death had massive repercussions on Shane's mindset, and set the tone for Season 2's dramatic final episodes. He was a simple farm hand for the Greene family, but one unfortunate incident saw him shoot through a deer and hit young Carl. Feeling the guilt, Otis joins Shane on a run for medical supplies and that's when it all goes horribly wrong. The pair are injured and fatigued, yet Otis waits for, and helps, Shane in the escape. They're down to their last bullets, and Shane makes the decision to shoot Otis in the leg. This slows the farm hand down and he acts as dying bait for the walker pack, who rip him to pieces, while Shane makes it out alive.
