7. (Nearly) The End For Otis

Otis' death was another early indication that The Walking Dead was willing to tread where most slasher films and zombie B-movies simply don't have the time to dive into. Shane and the Greene family farm hand Otis were both injured and desperate for an escape route from the hordes of walkers. Shane realised the only way either of them would survive would be to use his last bullet on Otis' leg, sacrificing him to save his own life.

It was a dark, dark decision, with Carl's life also hanging in the balance in the shape of medical supplies carried by the pair. Here's a scene showing Shane passing the responsibility over to Otis, and the farm hand making choices that would save them both. It makes Shane's big moment seem even more harsh. Poor Otis.
