Eugene has actually grown into a better character as the series has wore on, starting out as nothing more than the guy with a ridiculous mullet and a vague 'secret mission' like something out of a Mission Impossible script. Since his big secret was unveiled to the world, Eugene dipped into 'coward' territory, but without his motivational lies, the group would still be rotting in Atlanta. It was his fraudulent mission that led to Alexandria, and while characters have died along the way, they've got a base now where they can really start to build upon. He's growing in confidence and courage, hopefully that continues.
