9. Dr. Edwin Jenner

The CDC storyline seems like an eternity ago, with Dr Edwin Jenner's hope-filled introduction and sad demise coming at the end of the very first season. He strived endlessly for a cure to the disease, testing on patients and holding out hope longer than every other scientist who 'opted out' by committing suicide at the facility. However by the end, time was running out, and the lab sealed itself off, with an explosion set to destroy the building and everyone inside. He aimed to give everyone a peaceful, instant death as opposed to facing the horrors in the world outside, so while Jenner came across as a lunatic, he was only trying to spare certain characters from traumatic, grisly deaths.
