The Walking Dead: 10 Greatest Jesus Moments

4. His Subtle Sexuality Reveal

Fans of The Walking Dead comic books are well aware that Jesus is gay. However, it's a fact that was only ever mentioned once on the show, in a very brief and subtle way.

In seventh season episode The Other Side, Jesus had an intimate conversation with Maggie. At this stage in the narrative, Maggie was hiding from Negan, so she was unable to return to Alexandria. During her stay at Hilltop, she had grown rather close to Jesus, which gave the writers a perfect opportunity to give viewers a bit more info on the mysterious man.

Jesus revealed to her that he enjoyed being at Hilltop because, as he grew up in a group home, he was used to having a lot of people around him. He continued to discuss how he had issues getting close to people in the previous world, whether it be friends neighbours or, wait for it, boyfriends.

In the comics, Jesus' sexuality isn't a defining characteristic, but rather just a small bit of his identity. The show's subtle reveal lived up to that mantle because, as Jesus had already been on the show for well over a year by the time this scene aired, we'd grown to love him for his warmth, kindness and sheer badassery. His sexuality shouldn't be a major thing, and the show handled this with perfection. Mind you, it's a bit of a shame he never had a boyfriend at some stage on the series.
