The characters and audience have been starved of information on the nature of this zombie-apocalypse throughout the show, but particularly since Season 2, when Rick realized everybody was carrying the zombie virus and that it became active once a person died. Since then, each season has ended and started with some form of conflict but the bigger picture has rarely been mentioned. Eugene's plan to head towards DC turned out to be a ruse, and any hope that a resolution lies in the Capital seems fanciful. That said, the fun can't last forever. If the show wants to be considered a top-notch piece of television and not just a ratings monster, it will eventually have to come up with a believable resolution. Part of the problem rests with the comics, which are still running and don't seem to be stopping any time soon. Choices will have to be made on the fate of the main characters but the problem is, there doesn't seem to be a grand plan in place at the moment.
