The Walking Dead: 10 Most Underused Characters

3. Tyreese Williams

The Walking Dead
AMC

Like Jesus, Tyreese was a character with a much more interesting role in the comics. That's not to say the show version of Tyreese was bad, necessarily, just that he could have been so much better.

Introduced in the show's third season, he served as a main character through seasons four and five and spent the vast majority of his tenure beaten down by the world around him. He lost his girlfriend, his mind, and his will to keep fighting.

It was an occasionally inspired arc, and Chad Coleman gave a powerhouse performance in the role, but by the time of his season five death, he hadn't actually been able to develop passed his waning mental health.

Considering the comics portray Tyreese as Rick's best friend and one of the toughest guys in the series, it's a shame the show toned him down so drastically and refused to let him fully be the badass he was in the source material.
