The Walking Dead: 10 Outrageous Comic Moments That Won't Be Used

8. Carol's Suicide

Carol’s growth on The Walking Dead, particularly over the past couple of years, has been fantastic to watch; it’s one of the few character developments that has been done really well. From the beaten-wife wallflower we originally met, she’s now one of the most-loved characters on the show, and a total badass. It could’ve been rather different though.

In the comics Carol is quite a bit younger, and feels a desperate need to be loved. She becomes increasingly unstable during the Woodbury arc, and attempts to kill herself by slashing her wrists. After this fails, she attempts to, er, integrate herself into the marriage of Rick and Lori, but is (unsurprisingly) rejected.

This prompts her to find solace in the one thing that won’t reject her: a tied-up zombie, which tears her throat out as she rejoices that it does like her.

That didn’t happen, and would’ve been a major shock and weird character decision if it had. Obviously there’s still the possibility of Carol committing suicide further down the line, but given how far the character’s come it’d be surprising and disappointing if this happened.
