The Walking Dead: 10 Reasons Fans Are Abandoning The Show
2. It's Just No Fun Anymore
Part of the initial appeal of The Walking Dead was the fantasy element of surviving in a post-zombie apocalypse world. Imagining what it would be like, how you'd fare in this new world or having a whole city to yourself. The Walking Dead played into this, and while it was always a dark, violent show there was room for fun too.
Viewers enjoyed the characters, the action scenes and the gross-out gore. It toned down the unrelenting misery of the comic, which had scenes of violence and despair too grim for TV audiences. The show has slowly morphed into an endurance test, though, sacrificing any sense of fun for maximum gloom and drama.
Again it was never the lightest watch, but the fantasy element and morality questions kept viewers engaged. Now, it’s just about watching the characters suffer, which isn’t much fun.
