5. The Governor
As early as the first season, those who had read the comic books were talking up the Governor as a character to look forward to. His back-story was detailed in two prequel novels by original creator Robert Kirkman. In those books (the first one is a must-read), we see how Phillip Blake transforms into the monstrous governor. He's sinister and terrifying, someone you absolutely don't want to cross paths with. But in the show he's been a profound disappointment. The role was miscast with the otherwise talented David Morrisey (John Hawkes or Tom Savini would have been much better choices), and whereas in the books he's a psychotic monster, in the show he's just kind of a d*ck - more of your run-of-the-mill TV creep than post-apocalyptic warlord. To his credit, now he's returned, the show is making better use of him. His psychotic actions in Dead Weight proved that he's once again snapped and become a horrifically pragmatic leader, and though some might've found his re-descent jarring quick, we're all hoping he can deliver the goods in the mid-season finale. After all, it can't be as anti-climactic as Welcome To The Tombs.
