The Walking Dead: 10 Things To Expect When Season 9 Returns

2. We Should See Some People Switch Sides

The Walking Dead Season 9
Image Comics

In the comics, Alpha has a daughter named Lydia who doesn't share her mother's desire for carnage and mayhem. Because of this, she ends up leaving the Whisperers and taking up with the good people of Hilltop.

There will have to be some differences with the show seeing as Lydia quickly became Carl's girlfriend, but seeing as Carl is dead, that might not work out well for the series.

It's clear Lydia will play a major role in the show moving forward thanks to a casting announcement declaring she will be played by Cassady McClincy, best known for her role on Love, Simon.

The show will develop Lydia differently than the comics, but thanks to the transfer of Henry from the Kingdom to Hilltop to apprentice under the blacksmith (something Carl did in the books), it seems she will have a replacement for Rick's kid on the show. Henry already showed he was interested in getting close to the opposite sex and is the right age Carl was at the time of his death, which suggests he will take on a bigger role in bringing Lydia into the fold.
