The Walking Dead: 10 Times Rick Was Really The Villain

1. Knots Untie (Season 6) – Killing Hilltopper Ethan

If Rick’s infamous Alexandria meltdown was proof of anything it’s that Mr Grimes isn’t great at first impressions but at least he waited a few episodes before he killed any Alexandrians. The same can’t be said about Hilltop, however, since Rick killed poor Ethan within a few minutes of arriving at the community.

Granted, Ethan had every intention of beheading Gregory but considering what a nasty little turncoat he turned out to be who could really blame him. And it’s not like he was doing it for the hell of it either – he was trying to save his brother who’d been taken hostage by the Saviours.

Rick knew this. He heard Ethan say that stopping him would mean his brother would die and chopping off someone’s head to rescue a loved one was something that Rick would’ve undoubtedly done had he been in Ethan’s position.

More importantly, Ethan had stopped beating on Rick and it looked like Michonne was defusing the fight between the pair when Rick took that lull in action as an opportunity to shank Ethan in the jugular.

But it’s not so much that Rick fought Ethan or even that he killed him. It’s more that callous, couldn’t-give-a-f**k “What?” he spits at the crowd of aghast Hilltoppers whilst covered in Ethan’s blood and shrugging his shoulders as if killing one of their own was no bigger a deal than swatting a fly.

That’s not cricket and to the people of Hilltop in that moment, Rick was every bit as much a villain as Negan and the Saviours.

Which moments do you think made Rick a villain? Let us know down in the comments.
